The TechCrunch site obtained several images of a debit card from Google and the application allowing it to be managed. Like the Apple Card, it would make it possible to pay directly from the application with a fine adjustment of the parameters.
Almost a year ago, on March 25, 2019, Apple introduced new hardware that was unexpected, to say the least. As part of its conference dedicated to its various services, the firm announced its first bank card, the Apple Card. It will finally be available a few months later, in August 2019.
On the side of Google, it seems that the answer is not long overdue for a very long time. Indeed, according to information from TechCrunch, the Mountain View company is preparing to retaliate with its own bank card, logically called Google Card. The American site has indeed obtained several screenshots allowing to discover the interface of the application provided by the firm to manage the debit card. The idea is that the application can work in conjunction with Google Pay, the contactless mobile payment service from the publisher of Android.
Concretely, the card should be available in the software version, within Google Pay, but also in physical form. It should be a white smart card with a blue and green logo. Developed in partnership with Visa, it should not directly use the name of Google, but display that of partner banks. The application should allow you to manage debit card information, but also to transfer money to the account, deactivate contactless payment or change the security code or block the bank card.
GOOGLE FULFILLS ITS AMBITIONS IN FINANCIAL PRODUCTS
Google already launched its first debit card in 2013 under the name of Google Wallet in some countries, but finally ended the experience three years later. However, it seems that the firm is now looking to relaunch itself in the field of finance. Asked by TechCrunch about its projects, the American group did not seek to deny its ambitions: We are exploring ways to partner with U.S. banks and credit companies to offer current accounts through Google Pay, helping consumers benefit from useful budgeting tools while keeping their money in a secure account. Our main partners are currently Citi and Stanford Federal Credit Union, and we look forward to sharing more details in the coming months.
For the moment, it is not yet known when Google intends to announce its first bank card. However, given the advanced visuals, both of the card and the application, we imagine that it could have been unveiled in early May, during the Google I / O conference. While the conference was canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Google could hold an announcement in the spring. It remains to be seen in which countries the service will be launched. If the United States seems to be a market favored by the company, it is not yet known if the Google Card will also land in India.
